Seismic velocity characterisation and survey design to assess CO2 injection performance at Kızıldere geothermal field

چکیده

The noncondensable gases in most geothermal resources include CO2 and smaller amounts of other gases. Currently, the worldwide power is a small sector within energy industry, emissions related to utilisation are consequently small. In some countries, however, such as Turkey Iceland, production contributes significantly their budget, relatively significant. SUCCEED targeted innovation research project, which aims investigate reinjection produced at sites develop, test, demonstrate field scale innovative measurement, monitoring verification (MMV) technologies that can be used geological storage projects. project carried out two operating sites, Kızıldere CarbFix site Hellishei?i Iceland. Together with brief description this paper presents details progress made seismic velocity characterisation modelling relevant Turkey.

Three-dimensional Compressional- and Shear-wave Seismic Velocity Models for the Southeast Geysers Geothermal Field, California

Three-dimensional compressionaland shear-wave velocity (“Vp” and “Vs,” respectively) structure is obtained for the SE Geysers geothermal area from microearthquake arrival-time data. The results indicate a region of high Vp and high Vs in the northwest portion of the area studied, and a low value of VpNs at depths corresponding to the upper part of the steam reservoir. The Vp and Vs anomalies ar...

Coupled Approach to Assess Caprock Deformation Caused by CO2 Injection

This study focuses on a specific problem related to the caprock deformation induced by the injection of CO2 at depth. The adopted methodology includes the development of a mathematical model that incorporates the deformable behaviour of storage media and the flow of two immiscible fluids (CO2 and water) within the aquifers while the surface rock or caprock layer is modelled as a thin plate. Gov...

Attenuation and velocity dispersion at seismic frequencies

Attenuation and velocity dispersion are strongly dependent on pore fluids, particularly partial gas saturation, and thus could become valuable direct hydrocarbon indicators. Unfortunately, application of these properties is not frequent due to incomplete understanding of the phenomena and lack of appropriate tools to extract the information. Laboratory measurements at frequencies and amplitudes...

Numerical simulations of passing seismic waves at the Larderello-Travale Geothermal Field, Italy

Passing seismic waves released by large-magnitude earthquakes may affect geological systems located thousands of miles far from the epicenter. TheM9.0 Tohoku earthquake struck on 11 March 2011 in Japan. We detected local seismic activity at the Larderello-Travale geothermal field, Italy, coinciding with the maximum amplitudes of the Rayleigh waves generated by the Tohoku earthquake. We suggest ...

Performance Based Seismic Design

Performance based seismic design (PBSD) is a cogent design approach that allows engineers to design structures with a predictable seismic performance for a specified level of hazard. In contrast to the conventional limit state or strength and serviceability based design in which a structure is designed to withstand severe load combinations and be functional under normal load conditions, PBSD go...
